I've reinstalled a game onto windows 8 pro which I had on windows 8 release preview. It worked fine before, and when I tried to start it the first time, it said I had a missing dll, which was fine, so I downloaded it and extracted into the sys64 folder. I then tried to open the game again. This time I got this error: 'The ordinal 42 could not be located in the dynamic link library C: WINDOWS SYSTEM32 xlive.dll.' The live programme I suspect the xlive.dll is referring to is microsoft games. I've also downloaded xlive.dll and extracted it into SYSTEM32, and it didn't work, I just got the same error message.

The error message appears as soon as I click on the game. Hopefully I've supplied enough information. Please help:(. Hi Ricky, Thank you for sharing your query on Microsoft Community Forum! Thank you for providing and gathering information for this issue.

Your efforts are really appreciated. Which game are you referring? Xlive.dll actually comes in the 'Games for Live' package installer. Let’s download Xlive.dll from the following link and check if that helps. Method 1: a) Download the package b) Right click the package and choose 'Run as Administrator' c) Install the application and restart the computer. D) Try and run the game and check if the issue persists. If that does not help, I would suggest you to uninstall the game and tell reinstall it.

Method 2:Run SFC / Scannow. Please follow the below steps: Run the System File Checker (SFC) scan. Follow these steps: a) Boot to the desktop view. B) Open command prompt, right click in the left corner when the Start windowappear and select command prompt (admin). C) Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow. The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. Give this a go; I’m confident you will find what you need here.

But if you face any further issue please reply back to this post and we'll be happy to assist you further.

Try to install the newest GFWL Version. Go here: If it does not work reinstall F3 like this: • Uninstall Fallout3 & GFWL -> it is possible that there are various GFWL entries in your System Control • There are two folders left: Game Dir & My Games folder -> delete or rename them to backup -> Be careful with your backed up data, avoid using old *.ini files • Clean registry (e.g. By or ) & defrag your hard drive • Reboot • Install Fallout3 • Install the latest Patch which fits to your Game version or use the Live Update If you do not uninstall GFWL, this could cause other problems with it (can`t connect any more, etc) •.
